6 Jun 2018

A leading independent accountancy firm, based in the City of London, is celebrating its 125th anniversary this week.

Wilson Wright was founded in 1893 by its eponymous founder Mr Wilson Wright in south-east London, just 13 years after the Institute of Chartered Accountants, now the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), received its Royal Charter.

Following moves to Hatton Garden, Chancery Lane and Kingsway, the firm moved to its current City of London location on Holborn Circus in 2010.

Since then, it has welcomed several new partners, attracted top talent from ‘Big Four’ accountancy firms and has seen a dramatic increase in revenues.

“It’s all about the service, it is all about the people,” said Julian Richer, founder of Richer Sounds, the UK’s biggest hi-fi retailer, and a long-standing client of the firm. “There are huge advantages to using great people in a smaller firm.”

“I could use a larger practice, but that would come with the problem of constant staff changes and matters being dealt with at a junior level by inexperienced staff”.

“At Wilson Wright, I know that I am dealing with the best brains available”.

“Wilson Wright is always there for me in a crisis. It is easy when things go well, but there is no problem that the firm hasn’t faced up to and dealt with effectively”.

“Wilson Wright has never lost its focus on the clients.”

Michael Lerner, Senior Partner at Wilson Wright, who joined the firm in 1975 before becoming a partner in 1978, said: “Wilson Wright’s longevity is a real testament to generations of partners and staff who have shunned complacency and have instead opted to continuously adapt to a changing economy and business environment.

“This continues to be the case today and can be seen in the firm’s success over the eight years since we moved to Holborn Circus.

“Our strength lies in our ability to recruit the best people to provide a personal level of service to our clients.

“We have celebrations planned for clients, contacts and staff throughout the year as we celebrate the long-term success of our firm.”

Wilson Wright will mark the anniversary with a staff event on Thursday 7 June 2018 and will hold a larger celebration in the Autumn at which it will launch the ‘125 Faces of Wilson Wright’ project featuring video clips and a montage of key individuals connected with the firm.

Michael Lerner added: “The project is intended to emphasise that it is the people that make Wilson Wright.”
