Job Title:                          VAT Assistant Manager (Advisory Role)

Location:                          Hybrid Working (London EC4M/Remote)

Days/Hours worked:        Monday-Friday,35-hour week (Flexitime)

Report to:                        VAT Director

Day to Day Responsibilities include but not limited to:


  • Directly assisting the VAT Director & VAT Manager with technical VAT advisory work
  • Managing smaller distinct VAT advisory queries and smaller VAT clients and projects as appropriate for skill set
  • Advising and supporting the compliance team with their.
  • Working closely with and providing support to the TDR (Tax Disputes & Resolution) team dealing with complex disclosures and negotiations with HMRC.
  • Assisting with VAT training for the VAT Advisory and Compliance teams and more widely the firm.
  • Assisting the VAT Director & VAT Team with developing and implementing the VAT marketing initiatives.
  • Working with and developing relationships with our strong international network to provide support and source new work
  • Assisting the VAT Director develop the VAT offering and team to target new industry sectors and new technical areas of VAT (i.e. developing new technical skills and experience).
  • Assisting the VAT team integrate with and develop work with the BKL arm of the newly merged, expanding business.
  • Quoting and budgeting for VAT work and billing for work undertaken

Qualifications, Experience & Skills required

  • 1-5 years’ experience of providing VAT advice
  • Experience of the below would be an advantage:

    ​​
    • Property development, construction, and sales
    • VAT inspection, dealing with HMRC, voluntary disclosures and penalties
    • Due diligence (reviewing VAT returns and treatment)
    • Schools, academies, not for profit
    • Financial services
    • Manufacturing, retail
    • VAT compliance requirements (registration, returns, VAT groups etc) and HMRC procedures
    • Cross border Experience of EU VAT rules and other VAT regimes outside the UK would be very welcome
    • Working with overseas contacts as part of a multinational network would be very welcome.

  • Personable and approachable and keen to be involved in marketing initiatives
  • Experience and competence with the usual Microsoft and billing software packages.
  • Any university or professional qualifications in the Accountancy, Law or Tax would be an advantage.
